Be Honest with People about the Cost of Following Christ:

The important part is to help people understand that it’s a lifetime commitment, not a get outbid hell free card.
It’s about exchanging the right to follow our flesh for the commitment to live by the new nature God gives us when we become a Christian.

It’s not about performing; it’s about focus and commitment.

Much like a football player can’t play at for both teams on the field, you cannot follow both your flesh and your new nature.

The good news is that there is forgiveness when we make mistakes and sin.

But becoming a Christian is a lifetime commitment as to who we will be committed to follow: ourselves or Christ.

The only danger is that it can be taken down the path of legalism (pray a prayer- get your “get out of hell free” card) if there is no warning about the necessary commitment.

“Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭14:25-33‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Be honest with people about the commitment needed.

If they don’t accept Christ, then they aren’t not ready.

Don’t worry about the outcome, just do the how correctly.

Be honest about the cost.

Who knows,  you may disciple people over the course of time
