Pray First

This is a cover letter taken from a Personal Prayer Guide from my pastor:
Dear Partners in Prayer:

“We have to pray with our eyes on God not our difficulties.”

– Oswald Chambers

The great reformer Martin Luther made the observation that “to be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.” I heard others say that prayer is the key that should unlock the door of each new day and the key that locks the door when we go to sleep each night. I want Piedmont Church to commit to “Pray First” and to make the determination that in every situation, wether good or bad, to pray before we act. Unfortunately, many times people act first and then want God to bail them out of the situation, but the proper response is to pray first and not let it be our last resort. Prayer should be a priority rather than an option. The key function of prayer is not to influence God but rather to transform who is praying.

Understanding the necessity of prayer is not enough. In order for prayer to become a priority, it needs to become something that we genuinely participating. Many people have never had a robust prayer simply because they have never taught how to pray. That is where this simple prayer journal can transform your prayer life. Using various prayer models out of the Bible along with some guides to make prayer more personal, this booklet is designed to bring joy into your time with God. When you uncover the beauty of an intimate conversation each day you will experience His presence in a way that will change your life! Once you learn how to pray, prayer becomes a part of

Everyday life and then…

Before the day begins…

Before you go to bed…

Before you go to work or school –

Before you send that text –

Before you eat, drive or travel –

When bad things happen –

Before bad things happen –

In every situation – PRAY FIRST!

Prayer changes everything!

Dr. Dwight “Ike” Reighard
